Here goes week 4

Week four was such an anxious week. My laptop suddenly freezes at the beginning of the week, and I was worried not to be able to make it on time because it took time to be repaired. Goodness, it is working now. This week focuses on reading and writing. The articles I read gave me many ideas to use in my class. I tried some writing friendly letter, and it was motivating for my students. My students enjoyed the idea of giving them the freedom to choose books to read, so I am willing to use it soon in my class. The suggested websites are rich too. I could use them at my lab hours for students to work individually. Moreover, addressing the problems that I think I might face in my class concerning my final project helped me to start thinking of solutions. Even though weeks are passing quickly, I am learning much more and enjoying what I am doing. Wishing all a great fifth week good luck!

  1. I'm glad you could fix your computer on time, it happened to me on week three with the internet connection.
Students really enjoy writing for friend, don't they? I once worked with two of my groups as a mail-woman, and they exchange written letters for a semester, at the end we had a potluck to meet in person, it was really motivating for them. This was back when Internet didn't exist.
Nowadays, with e-mail and sites which gives you peers from other countries to exchange mail, it's even more enjoyable for them. I used it two years ago with a group from Omaha, Nebraska and it worked wonders in my class.

    Have a great weekend Karen!

  2. Hi Karen,
Technology breakdowns are always making troubles to teachers. I can imagine how upset you could be if if you were not able to repair you laptop. This should make us aware that we must be ready with other options.

Giving autonomy to learners to choose articles they like is very effective way. It motivates learners a lot.

Therefore, I was able to start work on Wednesday night. I thought I might not be able to meet the dealines, but I did, at the end.

Just wanted to say to be courages and determined. You'll never loose.

  4. Hi Karen,
I really liked this “freedom" of selection that you noted in your post. Yes, I also believe that students should have this freedom of resources choice. The teacher should be a facilitator, no more a TEACHER by his or her traditional presence. I believe we are in the ager of “freedom of learning practices”.

  6. Hi Karen,
I think we are all having problems this week!!!
I fell down at school and got my left foot plastered for two weeks.I have the plaster upto my knee which is really painful.

You have really nice reflections. As I always say that learners should be given their autonomy. We should act only as facilitator. Only technology can help us to create the interest in the teaching and learning process.
